Welcome!
Welcome to the first LernRad Cases of the module “Chest X-rays – Tubes & Lines”! I am excited to work through the first 5 cases with you and assist you in becoming increasingly confident in independently diagnosing supine chest X-rays.
My name is Bettina Baeßler, and I am a Professor of Clinical Radiology at the University Hospital in Würzburg. I also headed the cardiovascular and thoracic imaging section there until recently – hence, dealt with supine lungs every day. I am thrilled to share the experience and knowledge I have gained over many years. The training and further education of medical and especially radiological professionals is very close to my heart, and I have received various awards for my long-standing commitment to teaching, most recently the Most Effective Radiology Educator Award 2022 from Aunt Minnie Europe. I am eager to present the seemingly mundane topic of “Supine Lungs” in a way that ultimately translates the acquired knowledge into better diagnostic quality, benefiting our patients. Supine lungs are anything but dull, and diagnosing them can be genuinely fun when you feel like you know what you’re doing.
The learning objectives of this case package are:
- Confident practical execution of systematic diagnosis of a supine chest X-ray
- Introduction to the most crucial differential diagnoses for supine chest X-rays
- Identification of the most important foreign materials on a chest X-ray, especially for ICU patients
- Writing personal assessments with expert solutions for each case
If you have questions during the course, I am available as your tutor. The best way to reach me is via email at bettina.baessler@lernrad.com. I’ll definitely respond within 24 hours.
I wish you lots of fun and success working on the cases!
Yours, Bettina
